History

The Heart Valve Department within ETB-BISLIFE was officially established in 1989 as the Rotterdam Heart Valve Bank (HKB) following a donation by the Dutch Heart Foundation. In December 1998, the HKB became part of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. In December 2015, the HKB has been taken over and  relocated to the Euro Tissue Bank (ETB) in Beverwijk.

As of 1 January 2018, the Euro Tissue Bank merged with the bone bank BISLIFE, bringing all of the banks together. Currently, they form divisions within a single multi-tissue centre, under the name ETB-BISLIFE.
