ETB-BISLIFE processes and stores human allogenic donor skin. Physicians can request tissue for the treatment of patients with chronic wounds and burns.
Skin
Product range
Donor skin is used for the treatment of burns and chronic wounds. Donor skin acts as ‘biological dressings’ that temporarily cover wounds until they have healed.
Ordering tissue
The amount of donor skin needed depends on the patient’s height and weight, immunological characteristics, the severity of the wound, and the treatment method used.
Treatment methods
ETB-BISLIFE invests in the development of the types of skin tissue that are geared towards existing treatment methods and treatment methods that are being developed.
Research
Euro Skin Bank has started several research projects since 1980. The effects of glycerol 85% on the morphology of donor skin and the in-activation of micro-organisms were investigated
Donor selection criteria
The risk of the transfer of infectious diseases or of malignancies to the patient due to the treatment with donor skin is reduced to a minimum by screening the donor’s medical history and testing the donor’s blood for a number of communicable diseases
History
The Skin Departement was set up in 1975 as the National Skin Bank of the Dutch Burns Foundation. Human allogenic skin had been shown to be of great importance in the treatment of severe burns.
